Sen. Conrad “Hostile” To Taxpayers
a private, non-partisan, non-profit organization representing more than one million members and supporters nationwide. CAGW's mission is to eliminate waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency in the federal government. Founded in 1984 by the late industrialist J. Peter Grace and syndicated columnist Jack Anderson, CAGW is the legacy of the President's Private Sector Survey on Cost Control, also known as the Grace Commission.
They've just released their Congressional scorecard for 2004.
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste has released its ratings for the 108th Congress, second session. Like failing students hiding their report cards from parents, many members of Congress would rather not have taxpayers reflect on the legislative calamities of 2004. But a full review is essential to hold elected officials accountable for a better performance in 2005.
For the past 16 years, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) has tracked roll call votes in Congress to separate the good stewards of taxpayer dollars from the politicians who waste money by voting for new programs and pork-stuffed spending bills. The 2004 Congressional Ratings show that fewer elected officials worked to ease the tax and regulatory burden of a cumbersome, bloated federal government.
North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad recieved a grade of 19% which is labeled as "hostile". As a point of comparison, here are a few other scores: Byron Dorgan (D-ND) 6%, Ted Kennedy (D-MA) 25%, John Kerry (D-MA) 25%, and Rick Santorum (R-PA) 80%. For a complete list of the votes used click HERE.
This is yet more proof that Sen. Conrad is a typical tax and spend liberal. I have no problem with the fact that he thinks that government can solve problems. The problem I have is that he considers himself a "budget hawk". How can a "budget hawk" be considered "hostile" to taxpayers? I guess it's CAGW's word (actual votes) against Sen. Conrad's (rhetoric).
The Senator's web site says this, "Conrad is a renowned advocate of fiscal discipline." It's too bad he doesn't practice what he preaches. Remember that next November... Sen. Conrad is "hostile" to taxpayers.
