Michael Brown Out Of A Job
The Guardian - The embattled director of the Federal Emergency Management agency (Fema) has lost his frontline job overseeing the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, it was announced tonight.
Michael Brown was being sent back to Washington from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where the aid effort is being coordinated. Vice Admiral Thad Allen, chief of staff of the US Coast Guard will replace him in the frontline role.
Mr Brown's boss, the homeland security secretary, Mike Chertoff, announced the moves at a news conference in Baton Rouge tonight.
This was the right move.
Will it satisfy the people castigating Bush over Katrina? Not likely. There's blood in the water, they aren't going to back off now. And, really, Katrina is just the cause of the moment for most of these people. They made up their minds about our President a long time ago and would likely criticize him regardless of what he does.
