Help Rob Pick A New Header

Ever since the disaster (thanks Powweb) that nearly lost me all of my posts and led me to move Say Anything to a new host I've been meaning to put up header for the page that's a little more elaborate than the blue background and "Say Anything" banner.

I spent a little bit of time this afternoon making a new one, but I'm not sure I like it (if you can't see it above already refresh this page). Since I'm sure there are lots and lots of creative people among my readers I thought I'd open things up for suggestions.

So? Anyone have any ideas for a good logo/header? You can even design one for me, if you'd like, and email it to me. It has to be 900 pixels wide by 175 pixels tall with a relatively small (approximately 30kb or less) file size.

If I get enough submissions that I like I'll post them and maybe we'll vote on them or something.

The only thing I can see is Say Anything in the corner of a black box.  Even after I refresh the page.

I’ll come up with something that might be fitting, though I can’t promise PG-13.

I like the current header! Less is more. Your lay out is very good. And as a couple of people have pointed out, the current comments column on the upper right-hand of the page is most excellent, dude! Only complaint I have is the flash banner adverts on the lefthand of the page. I HATE those things.

I’m glad you like the current header.  I like it too.  I wasn’t sure at first...but its growing on me.  I might end up just tweaking it a bit (changing the font, etc).

As for the banner ads, I know they’re annoying.  But they pay for the bandwidth around here.  Without them I woudln’t be able to keep Say Anything running.

I kinda liked the blue banner myself.  Nice and simple…

The darkened theatre that you have now is kinda cool, but too dark.  If you had a way of lightening it so it had more to it other than just darkness, it would help.  Having your site’s name in a more prominent position might be good too…

Just my two cents…

No, I am not against ads. Just the flashing, annoying ones. They fill me with the urge to do business with anyone BUT them. And this extends to all media. Advertizing just pisses me off. If I want a product, I will go find it. Throwing it in my face 80 or 100 times an hour just makes me buy something else. You don’t have popups{Praise be unto God!} and that is a plus. And targeting to your readers, posters is a bit on the tough side. Just how many of us are actually looking to hook up with a date online. From what I know of your community, only one. And Lik seems to be in the"sowing wild oats” phase and quite capable of finding his own"chicks". What I do need is a new ammo dealer. My connection, a gentleman in his 80s, died in his sleep about a month ago. I shoot alot, between 2 and 5 thousand rds a month, and buying at retail just ain’t an option. Ads directed more towards computer services, equip, software and staying away from flash types would be a plus. Also, check into running ads from Alibris, I am always up for buying more books. My other addiction.

Andrew, that’s $403/test.

That seems like a huge amoung.

Ha.  I’ll keep that in mind Andrew.

I just put up a new one (you may have to refresh to see it) so check it out.

I think I really like this one.

I’m not going to give any specific ideas, but just remember one thing: Sex Sells.

Fun Fact #4: In 1990 the U.S. government tested 29,000 federal employees for drugs. Cost: $11.7 million.  Positive Tests: 153.  Cost per positive test: $76,470.

Ah, I kinda thought so… but the other one was so dark and I couldn’t remember exactly only having seen it once…

Its different from the one I had up earlier.  That one was a perspective from the audience facing a stage with a podium.

I like this one a lot better though.

Simple is better.  I think you should keep this banner.

I just wish Spaghnum would quit staring at me in the left-hand column.  It’s really kind of creepy, and I’m starting to get a guilty conscience.  And I don’t even know from what.

Yea, but that’s what my source said.  It wouldn’t suprise me though if you take in consideration hiring people to get urine samples, paying for equipment and paying for the lab.  Plus the government is notorious for spending more money than neccessary.

Fun Fact #5: Seven thousand U.S. troops invaded Grenada in 1983.  They recieved 8,612 medals for their efforts.

Like the new header, simple elegance. Too many blogs get to"busy". Their page is distracting from what your trying to read.

I don’t like that ad either… Ever since Rob mentioned it, I keep thinking there is a picture of me over there and it catches my eye all the time…

Rob:
What’s the plugin you’re using to display the Gravatars along with recent comments?

Excellente.  I’ve been using MtDewVirus’ Recent Comments plugin.  I’ll check that one out.

Now if only it sorted them by story like Semiologic’s (’course, that’d require my host to support Sax XML instead of only the DOM extensions...).

*sigh*

I like it but the text needs to be fixed to where it is not all jagged. Then it would be perfect.
