BUSH’S MOTORCADE DRIVES PAST PROTESTERS!

Good grief...

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush and his motorcade passed the growing camp of war protesters outside his ranch Friday without incident.

As Bush passed on his way to and from a political fundraiser, law enforcement blocked two intersecting roads where the demonstrators have camped out all week. Officers required the group to stand behind yellow tape, but no one was asked to leave.

The motorcade didn't stop.

Cindy Sheehan, the California mother who started the vigil along the road leading to Bush's ranch, held a sign that read: "Why do you make time for donors and not for me?"

It was unclear whether Bush, riding in a black Suburban with tinted windows, saw the demonstrators.

Is it just me or is Sheehan getting an awful lot of attention from the national press? Reporting on the President driving by a protest? Speculating as to whether or not he looked at the protesters through his window?

Give me a break.

Its almost as though the media were willing to run any story negative about the President, even when that story is about the incoherent ravings of a woman who has clearly let the death of her son cloud her judgment, if not her sanity.

Just to give a better idea about Cindy Sheehan's state of mind, here's an excerpt from a transcript of a speech she gave as related by one of her anti-war cronies:

You tell me the truth. You tell me that my son died for oil. You tell me that my son died to make your friends rich. You tell me my son died to spread the cancer of Pax Americana, imperialism in the Middle East. You tell me that, you don't tell me my son died for freedom and democracy.

Cuz, we're not freer. You're taking away our freedoms. The Iraqi people aren't freer, they're much worse off than before you meddled in their country.

You get America out of Iraq, you get Israel out of Palestine

(massive round of applause)

And if you think I won't say bullshit to the President, I say move on, cuz I'll say what's on my mind.

The cancer of Pax Americana? Wow.

But if that wasn't bad enough, there's always this:

Cindy Sheehan, the woman whose soldier son was killed in Iraq and who is now camping by a road in Crawford, Texas demanding a meeting with President Bush, on Wednesday thanked a group of antiwar bloggers for supporting her, saying that without the Internet, America would be a "fascist state."

"This is something that can't be ignored," Sheehan said during a conference call with bloggers representing sites like democrats.com, codepink4peace.org, and crooksandliars.com. "They can't ignore us, and they can't put us down. Thank God for the Internet, or we wouldn't know anything, and we would already be a fascist state."

"Our government is run by one party, every level," Sheehan continued, "and the mainstream media is a propaganda tool for the government." Sheehan also called the 2004 presidential election "the election, quote-unquote, that happened in November."

If she wants to believe that stuff, fine. The President himself alluded to the fact that she has every right hold the opinions she does when he was asked about the matter earlier today. Certainly, however, the President is under no obligation to subject himself to this drivel.

As to why said drivel is making national headlines, your guess is as good as mine.

Update:

Also, Cindy Sheehan would like you to know that if she turns up missing the Secret Service probably killed her.

Make that:

“Why do you make time for donors and not more time for me?”

Because the president isn’t your puppet.

"the cancer of Pax Americana”. HAHAH!

To hear a peace protester protest against “American peace” is just deliciously ironic.

Her 15 minutes of fame are OVER in my book.  A lady from the local area went to Crawford to support the other side of Ms. Sheehan’s protest.  Bravo for her!  But seriously, this lady needs professional grief counseling and when her media overdose is over with and MoveOn.org moves on—she’s going to crash and burn.  May God give her comfort.

At least they’re calling themselves by an accurate name.

MoveOn.org moves on
What a wonderfully ironic thought, Jo!

Rob says, “Give me a break.  Its almost as though the media were willing to run any story negative about the President, even when that story is about the incoherent ravings of a woman who has clearly let the death of her son cloud her judgment, if not her sanity.”

And, Rob also says, “Certainly, however, the President is under no obligation to subject himself to this drivel.  As to why said drivel is making national headlines, your guess is as good as mine.”

Were you, Rob, so condemning of the national media when the Schiavo saga was ongoing?  When they gave a microphone to every lunatic, priest, abortion clinic bomber (Randall Terry), and medical or governmental kook, allowing them to spout off ad nauseum?  Did you complain when Bush interrupted yet another Crawford vacation to fly back to D.C.—at a huge cost to the American taxpayers—to sign the “emergency bill” the the ENTIRE CONGRESS interrupted ITS vacation to pass?  Did you complain when every move of Michael Schiavo was scrutinized down to the last detail, or when he was excoriated and villified by people who didn’t have any knowledge of or stake in the outcome except to toot their own horns or get their own 15 minutes?

Well, the shoe is on the other foot—how does it feel?  Except here, this is a public issue (the war) and not a private end-of-life family matter.  This mother has made a supreme sacrifice, and now she is being excoriated and villified by those who have no personal stake in the outcome (i.e., how many righty talk show hosts and bloggers have signed up to go to Iraq, or lost family members there?); they’re just looking for a chance to turn this woman’s loss into just another political fight.  I say shame.  This President can’t take a few minutes and make his case to a grieving mom?  Yes, he met with her while she was still in shock; a lot has changed since that time 15 months ago, both in her life and in what we know about the falsehoods—yes, falsehoods (and Lik, you know the Downing Street Memos and all of the other allegations, go look them up yourself instead of merely saying “what’s my source” as this is an opinion piece I’m writing!—that were used to push us to a needless war.

And by the way, this man is OUR elected official, he is to serve US, not the other way around—Rob, he DOES have to subject himself to this “drivel.” What gives him the right to be hired by America, and then not be answerable for his actions while so employed?  Have you ever had a job, hired by another, where you could get away with such lousy “customer relations” with impunity?  And don’t say the pathetic “we had our accountabiolity moment last Novemeber”—that’s a load of crap, as Congress and Ken Starr can tell you after 8 years of hounding Clinton.  Here, congress is abdicating its oversight duties, too.  It is Bush’s responsibility to meet with the citizens, not hide himself away for 5 weeks in the middle of a war while those he sent are dying and getting shot at.

He drives right past the group; won’t make any showing of having a heart or any decency, on his way to raise another $2,000,000 in political donations.  Talk about the irony: He’s on vacation, soldiers are dying; a grieving mom asks for one hour during his 5 weeks, he goes to raise campaign money; he “works” for us, but when we question him we are called America-haters and traitors; Rove and Libby out a CIA intelligence project on WMD in the making for 20 years, Bush doesn’t give a damn and says “I’ll stand by my men” and elevates political expediency and personal loyalty over national security.

All of this refusal to talk to the American people, to hide away, shows him to be as much of a coward today as he was when he refused to go to Vietnam or even to finish his TANG duties.  Instead, we have a cheerleader standing on the sidelines today—just like he did in college—rather than a real Commander-in-Chief, and the sad thing is Bush thinks this is the way to be a strong-man hero.  He is a weak coward, who won’t even look a grieving mom in her eyes and say “I’m sorry your son died” and then tell her WHY he died.

ALL of this is why the national media is there, Rob: the courage of one simple, ordinary American who is demanding accountability from a man who, as the “most powerful man on earth” has refused to demand accountability of himself and all those who work for him, throughout the last 5 terrible years.  That’s why, Rob, that’s why.

"Analytical” Liberal fails to live up to his namesake, Were you, Rob, so condemning of the national media when the Schiavo saga was ongoing?

And then he drivels out…

Well, the shoe is on the other foot — how does it feel?

Hahaha...you obviously don’t pay much attention and speak out of your ass a lot.  That’s all I’m going to say on the matter.  Rob is the better one to excoriate you for your assumptions and ignorance.

This mother has made a supreme sacrifice, and now she is being excoriated and villified by those who have no personal stake in the outcome (i.e., how many righty talk show hosts and bloggers have signed up to go to Iraq, or lost family members there?)...

No. The whole country has a personal stake in the outcome of the war regardless of whether or not one is fighting or has a relative over there.

...they’re just looking for a chance to turn this woman’s loss into just another political fight. I say shame.

What?  Are you paying attention to what this woman is saying?  She is the one who made this a political fight.  I guess you are telling us that Cindy Sheehan is allowed to express her views but the rest of us have to keep quiet?  What a “liberal” you are.

and Lik, you know the Downing Street Memos and all of the other allegations, go look them up yourself instead of merely saying “what’s my source” as this is an opinion piece I’m writing! — that were used to push us to a needless war.

Key word above: “allegations”.  Also: “needless war”?

And by the way, this man is OUR elected official, he is to serve US, not the other way around — Rob, he DOES have to subject himself to this “drivel.” What gives him the right to be hired by America, and then not be answerable for his actions while so employed?

If our President spent time talking to everybody who has a nit to pick, he wouldn’t have time for anything else.  Fact is, he has already responded to this both personally and through his aides.

Have you ever had a job, hired by another, where you could get away with such lousy “customer relations” with impunity?

Where is the “lousy ‘customer relations’”?  And don’t tell me that this is your opinion so that you can dodge the question.  Of course it is your opinion.

It is Bush’s responsibility to meet with the citizens, not hide himself away for 5 weeks in the middle of a war while those he sent are dying and getting shot at.

Goodness.  Such rhetoric.  Anyways,..it was America (as represented by Congress) that sent our men and women over to Iraq.  Not Bush. The President doesn’t hold that kind of power.

He drives right past the group; won’t make any showing of having a heart or any decency, on his way to raise another $2,000,000 in political donations.

“Having a heart”?  Have you paid attention to the rhetoric that comes out of this group (more accurately: groups)?  It would be useless to talk to them because they are not willing to hold a rational debate or even to talk on good terms.

Talk about the irony: He’s on vacation...

Presidents don’t go on vacations.  They are always working.  It is only the scenery that changes.

...soldiers are dying; a grieving mom asks for one hour during his 5 weeks, he goes to raise campaign money; he “works” for us, but when we question him we are called America-haters and traitors...

Oh. So that is what you call it.  I would have called it namecalling and blame-America first rhetoric.  You call it “questioning”.

All of this refusal to talk to the American people, to hide away, shows him to be as much of a coward today as he was when he refused to go to Vietnam or even to finish his TANG duties.

I guess you’ll call this an “opinion” of yours when I call into question your claims here.  But here goes: can you prove that he refused to go to Vietnam or even to finish his TANG duties?

Instead, we have a cheerleader standing on the sidelines today — just like he did in college — rather than a real Commander-in-Chief, and the sad thing is Bush thinks this is the way to be a strong-man hero. He is a weak coward, who won’t even look a grieving mom in her eyes and say “I’m sorry your son died” and then tell her WHY he died.

Blah blah blah blah blah.  Look, with all of your namecalling, partisan rhetoric, and outright lies, you sound exactly like the groups that are surrounding Cindy Sheehan.  And you wonder why the most powerful man in the world would not take time out of his busy days to talk with someone like you? Are you kidding me? You’re filled with grandiose illusions of importance “Analytical” Liberal.

You can continue to sit there if you like and ask yourself repeatedly why the President of the United States wouldn’t meet with people like you. You can claim that he somehow isn’t doing his job or isn’t facing “accountability” by listening to and answering your moonbat comments and sitting still for a barrage of insults.  You can continue this for as long as you like and you can ignore the obvious answer: he doesn’t have time for fucking idiots.

Empty. Partisan. Rhetoric.

Your comments sure are long “Analytical” Liberal.  They are filled with straw man arguments, useless info not pertaining to the subject at hand, and liberal gobbledegook.  It is like you are a moveon.org or a Democratic Underground caricature.

To hear Idiotic Analytical Liberal tell it, Cindy Sheehan should be shielded from any and all criticism of her whacked out views all because she lost a son in Iraq.

She deserves our sympathy because she lost a son fighting in Iraq. She does not, however, deserve a free pass.

Oh and nice insertion of the chicken hawk meme. No liberal argument would be complete without that short-sighted debate tactic.

Tell me, do you support the police, firefighters, or EMT’s in your city?

The nice thing about being a “modern liberal” is you don’t actually have to do any fact checking.  Just believe the drivel that aligns with your warm and fuzzy feelings and you’re done.

Reality check time

Relevant quotes:

As evidence he wasn’t dodging combat, Mr. Bush has pointed to his efforts to try to volunteer for a program that rotated Guard pilots to Vietnam, although he wasn’t called.

Mr. Bush’s application for the Guard included a box to be checked specifying whether he did or did not volunteer for overseas duty. His includes a check mark in the box not wanting to volunteer for such an assignment [...] But several personnel officers said that part of the application for domestic Guard units routinely would be filled out that way by a clerk typist, then given to the applicant to sign.

Mr. Bush has said that he signed up for but lacked the number of flying hours to participate in a program called the Palace Alert, which eventually rotated nine pilots from his unit into duty in Southeast Asia from 1969 to 1970.

His signup and willingness to participate was confirmed by several of his colleagues and superiors, who remembered
the effort as brash but admirable.

While this reference is a bit dated (1999), it is one of the few articles I’ve seen that thoroughly vetted each part of the story (that is, at least it is good scholarship).  Possibly that is because there was a lot less “energy” associated with the question than there is now.

I included the part about the check mark in the box not wanting to volunteer simply to point out how poorly liberals vet their facts.  They tend to stop digging just as soon as they get the conclusion they want.  In this case, the checked box on “do not volunteer” is not probative.

And you probably don’t want to know what I think about somebody exploiting the death of their own son to further a political agenda.  Just sick.

He’s not allowed to take a “vacation” because his country is at war?  Should he sit constantly in the oval office and dwell on the war - what has gone wrong and what needs to be done next until it is over?

...the courage of one simple, ordinary American...

You have to be courageous to protest?  That’s news to me.

I’d still like some evidence of the idea that the President is actually on vacation.  Seems to me like he’s still been making headlines every day with speeches and meetings, not to mention the meetings and briefs he has behind the scenes.  This is pretty much what Presidents do.
