Blair Spent Money On Makeup

Shocking!

LONDON - British Prime Minister Tony Blair has spent more than 1,800 pounds (US$3,130) of taxpayers' money on makeup and cosmetic artists over the past six years, according to the government.

In a written answer to Parliament, the government revealed Blair's Downing Street office had spent 1,050.22 pounds (US$1,826.66) on cosmetics for the prime minister's media appearances since 1999. In the past two years, a further 791.20 pounds (US$1,376.14) had been spent on makeup artists.

Scandalous! Just over $3,000 in six years? That's like, $521 a year.

Or about half of what John Kerry spent on one haircut during his Presidential campaign.

Sarcasm aside, I don't see how this article made it to the AP "Top Stories" list. Its pretty lame. I mean, $521 a year seems like a pittance to keep a nation's leader looking decent during television and public appearances.

For a guy who appears on television every day, that seems like a paltry sum.  I was known to trod the boards back in the day, and make-up was probably the biggest ticket item of the profession.

I would like to see what the bill is for a few of our more prominent politicians. My God, Arlen Sphincter or J.F. Kerry most likely spend that per fiscal quarter. And yea, it is great to be home, even if I got to hit it early in the morning.
