Another Unfounded, Military-Bashing Media Claim
Among the deaths listed (see "read more," below), 29 were attributed to natural causes or accidents; 18 were deemed "justified homicide" or "suspected justified homicide;" only 23 were being "investigated as involving criminal homicide or abuse by U.S. personnel." Among those 23, just 3 were explicitly attributed to murder, with the rest still under investigation or involving lesser charges such as derilection of duty, maltreatment, and involuntary manslaughter.
Three murders, with maybe a dozen or so others yet to be determined. That's nowhere near 100.
I'm not sure that Ceci wasn't doing some cooking of the numbers here to make a more poignant point than the facts support. If you consider the definition of "homicide" you realize that it doesn't neccessarily imply murder. Murder is, of course, a type of homicide but the word literally means "the killing of one person by another person," something which could be the result of a lot of other things other than murder.
You'll notice in the video linked above that Brit Hume specifically asks Ceci if she is talking about 100 murders. She dodges the question by again referring to the deaths with the somewhat confusing term of "homicide."
So why would she do this? My guess is that she was going for some ratings shock value. Because to media twits like Ceci Connelly its not so much about what the facts mean but how the facts can be spun to garner higher ratings and more media exposure.
