450 Reminders To The Liberal Media

Perfect illustration of Liberal Media Bias: Haven't heard about this story, have you?

SocialSecurityChoice.org - Last week, the Cato Institute issued a new advertisement listing 450 economists, including 5 Nobel laureates, from across the country who have publicly endorsed personal accounts for Social Security. This may be the first time you've heard about this because the Washington Post and the New York Times haven't reported it. Neither has USA Today or the LA Times. According to a spokesman at Cato, it hasn't been reported on any of the major TV networks, either. No one is reporting this story.

All of this, of course, is completely unconscionable.

Would it be newsworthy if 450 climatologists signed a joint petition saying that the ozone layer was being depleted? Or, to stay on point, would it be newsworthy if 450 economists jointly agreed that President Bush was WRONG to endorse personal accounts? Would the liberal media report it then? Of course they would. They would report the story even if 450 Hollywood actors agreed that personal accounts were wrong, and they aren't even experts.

But when 450 economists --ť people whose expertise we rely on when it comes to fiscal matters like Social Security --ť collectively agree that personal accounts are the way to go, the liberal media turns into a pack of church mice.

Absolutely amazing.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Well, don’t get me wrong, I want personal accounts.

But decisions by consensus aren’t exactly my cup of tea.  If its right I don’t care who agrees, and I’ve seen a lot of very smart people be dead wrong before.

On the other hand, the media tends to run with consensus over thinking (see Global Cooling and/or Global Warming, whichever you prefer); so you are correct that they should be all over this like [insert inappropriate innuendo here] .

That wasn’t my point at all, sorry if I made it sound that way.

Just amazing that 450 (enter name of proffessional here) had come out in favor of any liberal adgenda, it’d be all over the papers the next day… but since it’s Bush’s SS plan, forgetaboutit…

[...] The fact that 450 leading economists endorse personal accounts is still mostly limited to blog coverage.
