Why Is Ann Coulter Embraced By The Right?

According to Kevin Aylward from Wizbang, who is attending the CPAC conference in Washington D.C., Ann Coulter is "everywhere" at the conference (including the merchandise booths).

Which makes me wonder, why does the right embrace Ann Coulter? She's a bomb-thrower on the level of the worst left-wing demagogues. She's smart and she makes good points occasionally, but her inflamatory style overshadows those things and actually, in my humble opinion, does more to hurt her political movement than help it. Sure she fires up those staunchly on the right, but more level-headed and reasoned discourse could accomplish the same goal and be appealing to those not normally inclined to agree with her.

And for the record, she's not all that good looking either.

Update:

Ann has made her appearance at CPAC. James Joyner has a run-down on the idiocy:

Ann Coulter has just started speaking. She's attracting a lot of attention from convention goers ready for some red meat. (I'm watching via closed-circuit so that I can live blog, so no photos.)

Not shockingly, her speech so far has been a collection of one-liners, mostly around gay marriage and Hollywood elites, including something to the effect that "Nuts are the entirety of the Democratic Party."

That's about par for the course with her. She may be funny, but she doesn't bring much in the way of analysis to the table.

No matter what side of the political spectrum one may be on, you gotta admit she is hella smart. And funny.

I suck at golf and hate my job - does that help?

(Well, I don’t hate my job, I just hate the way things are at our job...)

Agreed, but she’s more entertaining than Malkin et al.  And, the fact the she is thin and blond makes a lot of people (though evidently not you) want to look at her.  She’s easy on the eyes, amusing to those predisposed to agree with her, and she’s not afraid to make an ass of herself.  She is the right’s answer to FrankenMoore, except she’s better looking than those two.

I’d say she is one of the few who realizes that politics is, in large part, theater, and many of its observers observe it because it entertains.  She’s just taking advantage of a market opportunity.

Dave,

Most folks involved in politics realize its largely theatre.  Or are you suggesting that the Reagan and Clinton administrations didn’t realize this?

________________________________

How exactly has she demonstrated that she’s “smart?” By throwing red meat to the type of conservative who happens to adore her?

Consider this, this is the person who would trade Second Amendment rights for First Amendment rights (indeed, she appears to be part of that current crop of conservatives who favors press and speech restrictions).  What she doesn’t either realize or care about is the fact that our constitutional rights are complimentary; erosion of any of them hurts each individually and thus harms our liberty.

Gary, my point is not the Reagan or Clinton didn’t understand that politics is theater, but rather that someone who asks why the Right has embraced Ann Coulter doesn’t understand that politics is theater.

Ann Coulter is popular on the right for the same reason than an idiot like Jim Carrey is popular in Hollywood.  The people who like her laugh at her.  The rest of us just shudder in revulsion.

ann coulter, in lightest terms is a filthy fasciast cunt who talks more than she thinks, her comments i have caught over televisions program such as the disgustingly biased fox news are terrible, and are more politically incorrect than patriotic. and for the record i am non-partisan.

Well ken, I could make the same claim of you, just by your short comment here.  I do have to ask though, what makes Ann Coulter a fascist?

...her comments i have caught over televisions program such as the disgustingly biased fox news are terrible...

What makes Fox News “disgustingly biased”?  And what do you perceive this disgusting bias to be?

...and are more politically incorrect than patriotic.

“Politically incorrect”?  You mean Fox News isn’t cultural Marxist enough?  Why does Fox News have to be “politically correct” in the first place?  Perhaps it would serve your message better if you explain yourself on this one.

and for the record i am non-partisan.

Your comment suggests otherwise.  But I guess that remains to be seen.

Ann Coulter is a beautiful young woman who speaks her mind.  I think you have to be controversial to be noticed today and that she is.

I wonder what she thinks of Jane Fonda’s new book.  I was disgusted listening to Jane on the Chris Matthews show “Hardball”.  She was supposed to apologize for her anti-war actions during the Vietnam War but she didn’t.  She is still justifying her hatred of our Republican government with left-wing rhetoric and she is still trying to please her father though he is now passed away.

[...] In a recent post about right-wing bomb thrower Ann Coulter I put forth my belief that she’s not all that attractive despite the notoriety she receives for being a “hot, conservative babe.” I took some criticism for that, but for the sake of argument let me point out that if you’re looking for a hottie with right-leaning political views you can do much, much better than Coulter.
