More On The Anti-U.S. Professor

Earlier I had posted about a situation where a college professor told his student that he "needed psychological help" for writing a pro-American essay.

David Anderson weighs in:

[Could it be possible] That the kid failed for writing a shitty paper?

I dont [sic] know, call me crazy, but I would have failed the kid too. Paul of Wizbang seems to feel that the professor MAY be suffering some sort of moonbat syndrom [sic]. But as far as I am concerned, this paper would not pass a high school civics exam.

David has a point. Sort of.

I don't think anyone is really questioning why the kid's essay failed. I'll not pretend to know one way or another, but at least two blogging professors have agreed that the essay was a poor one so I'll take their word for it.

But the quality of the essay isn't the problem here. The problem is that the professor, who's job it is to teach this kid, not only gave the kid an "F" but also told him he was crazy and in need of the services of a mental health professional for his pro-American views. The idea of a professor being so insulting to a student alone is an indication of unprofessional behavior, but to have the cause of the insult be a student's pro-America sentiment is beyond the pale. We could look at the grade the essay got as a possible motivation for the kid lying about the professor, but if the professor did say what is alleged the grade is really sort of meaningless.

As far as I'm concerned, this professor should be punished. I wouldn't say he should lose his job, but some administrative leave and counseling are certainly in order.

And, of course, we should all remember that it is the student's word against the professor's, though given the fact that most college campuses are dominated by far-left politics it really isn't all that hard to believe. All we can hope for is a thorough investigation by the university and an appropriate punishment should the accusations prove true.

Update:

David Anderson says I'm an idiot and a hypocrite. As near as I can tell, this is why:

Now what is interesting about Rob's post, is that the only person who heard the professor tell the student this, is the student. The same student who wrote a paper that my 7th Grader could have done a better job of.

Of course, I addressed the possibility of this being a case of student revenge in the last paragraph of my post.

My guess is that this"

Rob's response to my post is to point out two typos in my post. One of the typos was forgetting the apostrophe in the word don't. Something I often do for lack of a spell checker.

"is probably the biggest reason why David is upset. At leat I hope it is, because I don't understand why he'd be so upset over me pointing out a couple of spelling errors and saying that he "sort of" had a point.

David also had this point to make:

I asked Rob in his comments what the point of pointing out those two typos was. I suppose it was Rob's way of being cute. One of Robs faithful readers decided to call me rude for pointing out Rob's rudeness. Funny. Anyway. I want to try a little experiment here".

"Rob of Say Anything Blog is a known pervert who uses his PI license to take pictures of Desperate Housewives."

Is that statement true? I doubt it, but I have just about as much proof as Rob does that the professor made that statement, or that the professor, "hates America and its history so much."

If the professor made the statements he is accused of making I think that final quote David is attributing to me is very much accurate. Of course, as my post points out, we don't know if he made them or not. We'll probably never know.

True, though I would guess that if this professor’s reaction to this essay was as strong as the student suggests he’s likely had run-ins with other students.  An investigation could run down those other run-ins and establish a pattern of behavior.

Rob,

Agreed.  But, of course, the only evidence we have that the prof said that was that of the aggrieved student.

So what is the point of pointing out my typos Rob, is that new trend, that anytime I track back to you I should point out your typos, that is so childish, I cant believe it. But thanks for pointing them out, I will go and clean it up, don’t expect me to comment any more on this thread though.

David Anderson,

Rob’s e-mail is fairly easy to find.  If you have a complaint like this, simply drop him a small polite e-mail and I think you’ll find that Rob is more than reasonable.  You going about it this way is not only rude to Rob, but to the rest of us regulars here at Say Anything.

Thank you.

Piss off. He points out two typos in my post on MY Blog, one a common one that many people make, and you call me rude. I did not ask Rob to comment on my Blog or Trackback to my post, being rude is being a pissant who makes political points of mundane bullshit like forgetting the “‘“ in don’t.

I’m sorry David, I didn’t mean any harm.  I think I used a pretty standard format when I quoted your post.  There’s no need to get angry about it.  But as for your assertion that you didn’t ask me to comment or trackback your post...I find that kind of thinking childish.

When you started blogging did you expect that the only responses you’d get would be from people you agreed with you?  You and I have been down this road before, but I’d point out that while disagreeing with you most of the time I have never been hateful or impolite to you.  You, on the other hand, have accused my guest blogger of racism and have told me to “fuck off” (in so many words) more than once.

Honestly, I could care less if you come here and respond or not.  But your blog is fairly high-profile, so as long as you’re saying things I disagree with or feel are mistaken I’m going to disagree , link to you and send trackbacks as per blogging etiquette.  If you don’t like it, delete the trackbacks or something.  But don’t whine about it...its unseemly.

David,
What’s the big deal?  Rob appreciates it when people point out mistakes on his own blog.  He strives to make it look as professional as possible.  Maybe you should take a lesson from him.
